2. Arthur Smith

Arthur Smith is the offensive coordinator of the Tennesee Titans and should be one of the hottest names on the head coach market. He has not received as much buzz as some of the bigger names out there (like Brady), but I really do think that Smith is one of the best options on the market.

Smith has turned the Titans’ offense into one of the best in the league and it started taking off as soon as he took over the job. The Titans were among the league’s worst in scoring before Smith took over in 2019. In 2019, they ranked 10th in the league in points per game (25.1) and ranked fourth in 2020 with 30.7 points per game.

A big reason for this jump has been Ryan Tannehill. The Titans’ offense has been so much better with Tannehill under center as opposed to Marcus Mariota and he went from a journeyman who never broke out into a legitimate top 10 quarterback in the league.

That bodes really well for Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers. If Smith can turn Tannehill into a top 10 quarterback and can create play designs to maximize his offense then just imagine the things he could do with Herbert, Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen.

Of course, having the best running back in the league in Derrick Henry certainly helps. Having Henry (who rushed for 2,000 yards this season) opens up things such as the play action and makes things even better for Tannehill.

However, Henry was not fully unlocked prior to Smith coming along. We saw the signs there that he could be elite but he did not truly jump out until 2019 when Smith took over.

Smith would be a fantastic hire and one that Charger fans could be happy about.
