LA Chargers: Justin Herbert secures first win – game grade
By Jason Reed
The cons:
We have to be fair and point out the things that Herbert did not do so well. However, it does become quite hard to outline the things that he does not do well when there is so little to pick from.
Frankly put: Justin Herbert was fantastic. To find the cons of his game today we really have to run it over with a fine comb. When we do, there really is only one thing that we can nitpick about.
And that was his first-half accuracy.
Justin Herbert did not look his usual self at the beginning of the game. While we mentioned Herbert being smart and throwing balls away, there were several throws in the first half that he simply missed, oftentimes being overthrows.
I am sure that some of those were by design, but there were obvious ones where that was not the case. Herbert was even almost intercepted at the end of the first half after taking a shot downfield when the Chargers got to start their drive at the 40-yard line.
He should have been picked off, the Jaguars simply dropped it.
However, if that is the worst version of Herbert that we are going to get then we should be thrilled. Not only was he still good enough to lead the team on three scoring drives early in the game, but he is good enough to completely flip it around and put together a fantastic second half.
He was just a little rusty.
