3. Kyzir White
Kyzir White did not have as big of a breakout season as Charger fans were expecting in 2019 but he still had a really solid season and has emerged as a really solid cover linebacker for the LA Chargers.
As a former safety, White fits in really well in the Chargers’ defense because of his versatility and athleticism, which allows him to be above-average in the pass-defense department. White posted a 67.5 coverage grade on Pro Football Focus last season, which is pretty solid for a second-year linebacker that used to be a safety.
White is only going to get better with another offseason behind him and while so many other players are getting the attention on defense, I really like White’s potential to have a breakout season and shock the fans. He is not going to be a Pro Bowl linebacker or anything but I think he can be really important for the defense without Derwin James.
White only played in 38 percent of the defensive snaps last season and I would expect that to jump to somewhere in the 60 percent range.
The former fourth-round pick has potential and we all know it, we were all just a year too early on predicting his breakout season. So while he still won’t be the most impactful linebacker on the team, I really like his chances to be much better than expected.
