3. Austin Ekeler

  • Highest ranking: Third
  • Lowest ranking: Fourth

Austin Ekeler might just be the most exciting player to watch for the LA Chargers in 2020. While he comes in as the third-most talented, Ekeler is experiencing an increase in workload that nobody else on this list is really experiencing.

Ekeler is going from sharing time in the backfield with Melvin Gordon to becoming the Chargers full-time RB1. Granted, he will still share the snaps with Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley, but we will likely see Ekeler’s 57 percent of offensive snaps played last season go up to 70 percent.

The things that Ekeler can do with an increased workload is remarkable. He is already the second-best receiving back in the league behind Christian McCaffrey, who was the only running back in the league last season to have more receiving yards than Ekeler’s 993.

We know he can thrive in the passing game and now we get to see him in the running game more as well. Ekeler averages 4.2 yards per carry and will hopefully see an uptick of carries around the 200 mark.

If so, we could easily see a season with 900 rushing yards and 900 receiving yards, if all goes as planned, giving him a combined 1,800 yards from scrimmage.

That would put him atop the mountain alongside some of the best running backs in the league and he is absolutely capable of doing so.
