2. Joey Bosa’s extension

Joey Bosa got his extension and it was very cool to see his reaction to the deal. He got genuinely emotional talking about the call he had with his dad after the extension was complete and it was very nice to see that side of him. Bosa can sometimes be a bit dry emotionally in terms of his personality and voice, but he shined through in that moment.

Bosa got congratulated by a lot of his teammates on his new deal. Mike Pouncey went over to ask the star edge rusher if the “check cleared” yet and Bosa responded by saying that he wasn’t sure in a joking manner. In general, the whole episode made you really happy to have the former Buckeye as a Charger for a lot of years to come.

One aspect of the episode that was very interesting was the contrast between the Jalen Ramsey and Bosa contract situations. Both were top five picks, being selected at 5 and 3 respectively.  It will be interesting to see if the Rams get that contract done before the season or if they’ll hold off. Ramsey’s frustration with the contract situation seemed palpable in his interactions with Rams’ reporters on zoom.

Bosa apparently has a boat in mind with his contract. He named his future ship “Double Swipe” after his own pass rush technique. Fellow defensive end Melvin Ingram said that the ship would have two of everything, including double engines. All aboard the S.S. Double Swipe for the eventual Ingram rap video!
