LA Chargers News: Head coach Anthony Lynn previously tested positive for COVID-19.

The NFL season feels like it is officially back with the debut of the first episode of HBO’s Hard Knocks, which features both the LA Chargers and LA Rams this season. It did not take long for some massive Chargers news to drop, either.

The opening scene of the first episode of this season included a pep talk from Anthony Lynn to his players via a zoom call. Lynn, like always, was giving a great motivational speech, proving to be the perfect person to welcome back the NFL in 2020.

During that speech, though, Lynn dropped a bomb on his players and the rest of the football world: he previously tested positive for COVID-19. Lynn said:

“I can’t promise you that you are not going to get infected. I got infected.”

It was reported back in April that two members of the LA Chargers tested positive for COVID-19 but their identities were not revealed, although it was confirmed that Anthony Lynn, Tom Telesco nor Dean Spanos had shown any symptoms.

Of course, as we have learned about the novel coronavirus, asymptomatic carries are not totally uncommon and that could have been the case for Lynn.

The LA Chargers are focused on tackling COVID-19.

The LA Chargers were one of three teams to not have a single-player opt-out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. The narrative around the team heading into training camp is that they are going to tackle the new protocols as they would anything else in the game, and that was clear from Lynn’s opening speech.

*Update: Lynn further elaborated that he had a slight cough with body aches and only got tested because an unnamed PGA Tour golfer had tested positive with the same symptoms. He said he felt like an outcast at first, but is ultimately glad that he did not spread the virus.

Lynn has not elaborated on when he tested positive or the symptoms (if at all) that he experienced. We will be sure to update this page with more Chargers news as it becomes available.
