LA Chargers: Ranking Tyrod Taylor and all 32 starting quarterbacks
By Jason Reed
28. Sam Darnold, New York Jets
- Average ranking: 26.5
- Highest ranking: 25
Sam Darnold is another young quarterback that is yet to make those strides that he is capable of. We have seen really good flashes of Darnold at times but he is still too turnover prone and is not great at reading NFL defenses.
If Darnold can stay healthy in 2020 and continues on a natural progression, building off of a strong finish from last year, then he easily can shoot into the top 20 on next year’s list. For now, he finds himself among several young quarterbacks.
27. Tyrod Taylor, LA Chargers
- Average ranking: 25.83
- Highest ranking: 21
It did not take long to get to Tyrod Taylor and this is a fair place to put him on the list. While we know he has a higher ceiling than this, Taylor has not been a full-time starter in three years and lacks that “it” factor that is going to lead to a Super Bowl run.
Of course, we could be wrong and Taylor could smash all expectations in 2020. However, the Bolt Beat staff likes 26 quarterbacks more than Taylor, although Taylor might end up being the perfect fit for LA.
26. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- Average ranking: 25
- Highest ranking: 21
Josh Allen somehow made NFL Network’s Top 100 Players list despite the Bolt Beat staff all liking at least 20 more quarterbacks than the Bills’ quarterback. He is explosive, we have to give him that, but he lacks the arm accuracy and decision making to be considered a top 20 quarterback in 2020.
Some of the staff, including both Alex and Steven, think Allen is one of the three worst quarterbacks in the league, each ranking him 30th out of 32.
25. Cam Newton, New England Patriots
- Average ranking: 25
- Highest ranking: 16
Cam Newton was actually right below Taylor on most of the lists we made except for one. Devon ranked Newton as the 16th best quarterback in the league in 2020 and that rose his average up to 25, good enough to beat out Tyrod and tie (and beat) Josh Allen.
