Which LA Chargers rookie will be the best in 2020?

The LA Chargers drafted six new faces onto the roster in the 2020 NFL Draft, trading their second and third-round pick in the draft to move back into first round to draft linebacker Kenneth Murray.

It is an interesting draft class for the Chargers as it was headlined by a player that might not even see playing time in 2020 in Justin Herbert. While Herbert will play if Tyrod Taylor gets hurt or plays horrible, the Chargers’ plan seems to be to sit Herbert for a season to learn the NFL way.

With the sixth overall pick likely playing, it then becomes an open debate for which Chargers rookie is going to have the biggest impact in the 2020 season. To answer that question, we ranked all of the rookies taken in the 2020 NFL Draft in order of our projected impact by each player.

And just to be clear, Herbert is not on the list because of the dynamic already mentioned above.

Ranking LA Chargers rookies on 2020 impact: 5. Alohi Gilman

Safety Alohi Gilman was taken in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft and is yet another player taken out of Notre Dame by general manager Tom Telesco, who has a fascination with Notre Dame players.

Gilman is a good open-field tackler and pursuer but leaves more to be desired in pass coverage and is an average NFL athlete at best. Barring any injuries, Gilman is going to spend close to all of his time with the special teams unit in 2020.

Gilman has the makings of being a solid special teamer, but that does not make him more impactful than any of the other rookies that the Chargers drafted.
