LA Chargers: Joey Bosa, Derwin James and the best young defense duos
By Jason Reed
Joey Bosa and Derwin James give the LA Chargers one of the best young defensive duos.
The LA Chargers locked Joey Bosa down for the next six seasons by signing him to a five-year extension right when training camp started. Bosa is going to be the anchor of the defense for the next half-decade and makes up a brilliant defensive duo with strong safety Derwin James.
James and Bosa have not actually shared the field that much together because of injuries, but for at least the next three years, they will be terrorizing opposing offenses.
To put into perspective just how good they are as a duo, we decided to rank them among the best young defensive duos in the league (young qualifying as 25 or younger this season) starting with…
5. Jamal Adams and Shaquill Griffin, Seattle Seahawks
This is a new partnership that has not spent any time on the field together but cracks our top five. Jamal Adams makes a very good case to be the best young safety in the game and even if Charger fans prefer James, they cannot deny how talented Jamal Adams is.
The drawback of this relationship is Shaquill Griffin, but that is not to say that he is a bad player. He was a Pro Bowler last season and is one of the more promising young corners in the entire league.
However, there are levels to this and where Adams and the rest of this list are elite players, Griffin is still not there yet and cannot be regarded as elite. Could he take that next step in 2020? Absolutely.
The Seattle Seahawks have to be happy with how the secondary shakes out with Adams and Griffin leading the charge.
