Keenan Allen

Keenan Allen is by far the most likely player to remain with the LA Chargers out of the current group of free agents. Extension talks have already begun with Allen’s representation. With what he brings to the team as well as the fact that he’s shown his ability to stay healthy over the last three seasons, Allen should have no trouble reaching a four or five-year deal at around $20 million per season.

The Chargers need Allen to maintain his status as a top 10 receiver in the league. Personally, it’s not hard to argue that he’s top five. He gets a ton of separation on all of his routes  On third down over the last three seasons, Allen has 70 receptions, the most in the league over that span.

Allen is automatic for just about 100 receptions each season. To me, Allen is even more crucial to the Chargers in the next few years than he’s been in the last few. He will be instrumental in the development of Justin Herbert.

Philip Rivers was experienced enough that he was able to play with whatever receivers were given to him over the course of his Chargers’ tenure. Herbert will need a bonafide number one possession receiver, and Allen fits that bill perfectly.

With the transition from Rivers, Allen might honestly become the leader of the offense. As much as I love Tyrod Taylor, he’s probably not with the team after this season. It will take a few years for Herbert to lead the team from the quarterback position. Other players on offense will learn on Allen’s experience as the second longest-tenured Charger after Ingram.

Next. Why Andre Patton could be the third receiver

It remains to be seen as to what type of contract Allen will get from the organization, but they simply can’t let him walk. Give him whatever contract he wants.

Chance of re-signing: 90%
