3. Hardly any undrafted free agents will earn a spot on the LA Chargers

The LA Chargers have a fairly deep roster and there are not many spots that are up for grabs. The 19 undrafted free agents already have to compete with two XFL signings in Donald Parham and Storm Norton and this helps those two more than it helps the UDFA.

At least with Parham and Norton, they know the Chargers sought them out and have recent tape of them playing professional football. That will help them get a roster spot whereas the UDFA have to prove it in the preseason. They obviously have less of an opportunity to do so now.

Sure, there are still going to be practices and coaches will still get a decent look at these players but a solid showing in the preseason can be the difference between a roster spot and getting cut for many of these guys.

Who knows who the Chargers might potentially miss out on as a result. Austin Ekeler was a UDFA a few years ago and is now one of the best dual-threat running backs in the league. There might be another Austin Ekeler that not only does not make the Chargers but does not get a chance in the league that he otherwise would have earned.

The only UDFA that I can sit here right now and say still has a fairly good chance of making the roster is fullback Bobby Holly and that is mostly because the team has a hole to fill from T.J. Watt’s departure and Holly is a physical menace.

There will be others that make the roster or practice squad, but the Chargers very well could miss out on that next hidden gem.
