LA Chargers 2020 opponent preview: New England Patriots
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers host the New England Patriots in Week 13 of the 2020 NFL season.
Talk about timing. We have been doing this LA Chargers 2020 opponent preview series for about a week and a day before it was the New England Patriots’ turn some huge news dropped: Cam Newton is signing with the Patriots.
Thus, we did not have to do this article and go back and revise it with the news. This is significant, this shows that the Patriots are indeed still committed to winning in 2020 and that the team is not going to simply punt for a high draft pick in 2021.
The Patriots are going to be one of the most interesting teams to watch in the league. One of the greatest dynasties in all of sports has seemingly come to an end with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay but if the Patriots can unlock Newton’s full potential, with this defense, then it is not crazy to think that they could still win the AFC East.
It is a big what if, but that is what makes this team so interesting. Suddenly, the Chargers’ Week 13 matchup has changed from a game against a team that, at that point in the year, might be more motivated to lose into a game against a team that is more than likely going to be in the thick of a playoff push.
As we have with all of the LA Chargers out-of-division opponents to this point, here is our way-too-early opponent preview, which includes the team’s key additions and subtractions as well as how the Chargers can beat the Patriots.
