LA Chargers things to watch for on ‘Hard Knocks’: Getting to know new notable coaches
There are three notable new coaches that Charger fans are going to get to know rather quickly. Quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton and offensive line coach James Campen are both new to the staff and both have a huge impact on the future of the team.
Hamilton was brought in to essentially aid Justin Herbert into the transition to the NFL while Campen, the long-time offensive line coach of the Green Bay Packers, was brought in to help the Chargers’ offensive line woes.
Shane Steichen is the third notable coach that Charger fans are going to get to know. While he is not new to the Chargers’ coaching staff, this is his first season as the full-time offensive coordinator and he has a great story as he has worked his way up from being an offensive quality control coach to the offensive coordinator.
LA Chargers things to watch for on ‘Hard Knocks’: The left tackle battle
The one spot on the LA Chargers roster that every fan has been eyeballing this offseason is left tackle. The team has addressed other areas of the offensive line but the left tackle position still remains up in the air.
If I was a betting man, I would guess that Trey Pipkins is going to be the team’s starting left tackle in 2020. The Chargers are definitely going to make the second-year tackle earn it.
The likes of Sam Tevi and Trent Scott are also going to get a crack at the position and there has even been some intrigue in giving Forrest Lamp a shot to win the job. Lamp was a left tackle in college, which is where he thrived and has not really panned out as a guard, although he has been held back by injuries.
Regardless, left tackle is the most important position on the offensive line and it will have a massive impact on the LA Chargers’ success in 2020.
