LA Chargers’ keys to be a winning team: 2. Winning games while traveling East

The LA Chargers got the worst end of the stick with their 2020 schedule. All of the team’s toughest out-of-division games are played on the road with the AFC West playing the AFC East and the NFC South, the Chargers are going to be doing a lot of traveling.

The NFC South is almost just as far East as the AFC East and in back-to-back weeks early in the season the Chargers have to play Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, both on the road.

Then, after one game at home, the Chargers have to travel all the way back to Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers beat the Dolphins in Miami last season but have a terrible history playing in Miami. That win broke and eight-game losing streak in Miami that dated back to 1982.

The team also has to travel East to play the Buffalo Bills, who are a 10-win playoff team and will likely win the AFC East in 2020.

The Chargers have never been a team the particularly travels to the East Coast well but they have to avoid laying a goose egg in these four games. Even a 1-3 record could be salvageable for a winning season (although it would be tough), and the team really has to go 2-2 in these four games if they want to reach nine wins.
