LA Chargers: FanSided predictions pins Chargers at 7-9 in 2020
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers are heading into one of the most interesting seasons in recent memory in 2020. The team has undergone a change at the quarterback position and for the first time in a decade and a half someone without the name ‘Rivers’ on the back of their jersey will be under center for the Chargers.
Tyrod Taylor is in line to be the starting quarterback of the Chargers in 2020, with sixth overall Justin Herbert waiting in the wings to take over the franchise, assumingly, in 2021. The reaction to Taylor being the quarterback has been a mixed bag.
The predictions and projections for the team have been vastly varied as well. Bolt Beat staffers have predicted as high as a 10-6 record for the Bolts, while Pro Football Focus claimed that the Chargers were the most likely to have the first overall pick in 2021.
The team has a good supporting cast and roster, but after they dropped the ball in 2019, it is hard to expect which end of the extreme the Chargers will fall on.
FanSided’s Matt Verderame fell right in the middle of the two extremes.
LA Chargers: FanSided’s Matt Verderame predicts the team to go 7-9 in 2020.
Verderame predicted every game, yes, every game of the 2020 NFL season and when it was all said and done, he had the Chargers winning just seven games and finishing third place in the AFC West.
Verderame predicts that the Chargers’ seven wins will come against the Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos.
The Denver Broncos are the only team that Verderame thinks the Chargers are capable of beating that have a winning record, via his predictions. He predicts the Broncos to be 9-7 with a wild-card berth.
The rest of the teams have some of the worst records in the league, as the next best team that Verderame has the Chargers beating is the Oakland Raiders at 6-10.
It is interesting to note that Verderame has the LA Chargers at 6-3 and in a prime position for the playoffs heading into their bye week. However, they then lose five games in a row to move to 6-8 before defeating the Denver Broncos in Week 16.
It would totally be a Charger thing to be 6-3 in the bye week and lose five straight.
It is important to note that when someone is predicting the season this far in advance that there is going to be a lot of room for error. Last season, Verderame projected the Chargers to win 12 games, which obviously did not happen.
Hopefully the LA Chargers can prove him wrong again but in a good way this season. It is safe to say that a 7-9 season would be disappointing.
