The 2020 LA Chargers schedule has been released and there are some intriguing matchups.

The LA Chargers have a favorable schedule this season, ranking as the seventh easiest (per ESPN’s Mike Clay) in the league. Let’s take a look at some of the most intriguing matchups on this year’s schedule.

2020 Season Opener

In Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season, the Chargers will travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. While it is unlikely that Justin Herbert will be making his debut this early in the season, Joe Burrow will be getting the first start of his career.

The Chargers made quite a few changes to their defense this offseason. Adding guys like Chris Harris Jr., Linval Joseph, Kenneth Murray and getting back a healthy Derwin James will be huge for the Bolts defensive group.

This will be a tough task for the NFL Draft’s number one overall pick. The Chargers defense should be significantly improved from last year. If the Chargers can overwhelm Burrow they can get their first win of the season and start on the right foot.

This will also be the first start for a Charger’s quarterback not named Philip Rivers since 2006. It won’t be the same seeing someone new under center for the Chargers, but it is the beginning of a new era. Moving into a new stadium and grooming a rookie quarterback that has a very different skillset from Rivers will be an interesting thing to watch over the course of the next few seasons.

A lot of football fans will tune into this game to get a look at Joe Burrow. The Chargers can set the tempo for the season here in Week 1 and show the league that they are better than their 5-11 from a year ago. Getting a road win to open the season will be a huge momentum boost for the team as they head into their Week 2 game against the Chiefs.
