6th pick, Los Angeles Chargers select: Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah

This pick has grown on me. It just makes this Los Angeles Chargers defense too much fun. You’re adding the best cornerback prospect since Ramsey to a defense that contains Casey Hayward, Derwin James, Chris Harris, Joey Bosa, Desmond King, and Melvin Ingram. That defense could be the best pass defense since the Legion of Boom.

Okudah may not have produced much, but it’s a tough thing to do when other teams don’t test you at all. Okudah is the smoothest man to man cornerback I have seen on tape since I started watching players, and it’s not particularly close. He also is quick to react in off coverage and gives the team some youth at the cornerback position that will bite the Chargers come a year or two.

If the Chargers pass on Okudah to take one of Justin Herbert or Jordan Love, I might curl up into a ball and shed real human tears. It would hurt. Okudah would bring this fan base something they have been craving since the team took Joey Bosa over Jalen Ramsey.

While it did work out for the best, the team has still been looking for that star corner opposite of Casey Hayward, to the point that many hope Nasir Adderley will make the switch.

Whether or not corner is the most pressing need on the team, Okudah is the best player available here, and at a position that is so important in a division that has rising star Drew Lock and the best young passer in maybe all of history in Patrick Mahomes. I’m really talking myself into this. I am fully prepared to cry when Detroit takes him at five.

Next. The best-case scenario draft for the Chargers

Anyways, hurry up Thursday, I have been waiting far too long for this.
