2nd Pick, Washington Redskins select: Ohio State Edge Chase Young
Still no surprise here. I toyed with the idea of having Washington take Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, and I still have a feeling that it might happen, but in the end, I feel like the injury concerns will keep Washington on script. Tagovailoa won’t stay on the board long, though.
Chase Young offers Washington the elite pass rush that Ron Rivera can take advantage of. Young racked up 16.5 sacks in 2019, and that was despite missing games due to a suspension. The real special stuff comes from Young’s ability to explode off the snap, and immediately take a zipline right to the quarterback with little to no interference due to that athleticism.
Triple teams, double teams, it doesn’t matter. Young gets to the football, and he’ll try to take it from the opposing quarterback every single time. Six forced fumbles in 2019. Unreal stats from an unreal player. Young consistently blended bend, with power and athleticism, to make his job easy, and the offensive line’s job impossible.
Now, if the Redskins opt to take Tagovailoa, would the Chargers be willing to trade up to the third pick to select him? Would the Lions even allow a team to trade up to three, and instead opt to take Young themselves? I honestly hope it happens.
