In the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select: Van Jefferson, WR, Florida

Part of the reason why I went with a cornerback in the second round instead of a receiver is that I looked ahead at the third and fourth round and saw one of my favorite mid-round targets would fit this best-case scenario draft in Van Jefferson.

Jefferson is the perfect kind of receiver to bring in as he is not someone who has to be schemed a certain way to succeed. Jefferson can play outside or in the slot and has the quickness, agility and elusiveness to create separation.

He is not the most explosive or most physical receiver in the draft but he is an excellent route-runner that should thrive as the third target in a passing attack that also features Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

In fact, Jefferson reminds me a lot of Allen, in several ways. Allen is not the most physical or athletic receiver in the league yet he is still one of the best as he is elite at creating separation.

Some may say that Jefferson would be a bit redundant with Allen in the receiving corps, but I would otherwise. Having two elusive receivers that thrive in creating separation in short and medium route trees with a deep option such as Mike Williams is a recipe for success.
