LA Chargers: Ranking the potential starting quarterbacks options
By Jason Reed
LA Chargers starting quarterback option: 3. Tyrod Taylor
The probable Week 1 starter for the LA Chargers would be my third quarterback of choice if all things were equal and I could simply pick whoever I (realistically) wanted to be the starting quarterback of the team.
Taylor absolutely deserves to start over any of the rookie quarterbacks previously mentioned. While I have been skeptical of the move to Taylor in past articles, he does deserve a chance to start, so long that the Chargers do not get one of the first two players on this list.
Taylor is a fine quarterback and I do not think he will do anything to necessarily hurt the team. He has a low turnover rate and has been a Pro Bowler in the past. I just don’t know if he is the guy who you want to have the ball down by four with a 1:30 left in the game.
As a Charger fan, I am rooting for Taylor and I genuinely hope he proves me wrong. I just cannot see the Chargers winning a playoff game with Taylor against a top seed in the AFC. I can see him being good enough to get to Wild Card Weekend, but that is about as far as it goes.
Someone who is very comparable to Tyrod Taylor is Marcus Mariota. In fact, if you look at their numbers and their situations, they are two very similar quarterbacks. Would you want Mariota to be the starting quarterback of the Chargers? That is for you to judge.
