On Wednesday, the LA Chargers announced that they will be releasing their new uniforms on April 21st. What can fans expect them to look like?

The social media team for the LA Chargers teased fans on Wednesday while other teams dropped their 2020 uniforms. Chargers fans will have to wait a little longer to see their new uniform, as it will release on April 21st, which is just two days before the draft.

Back in March, it was announced the Chargers were getting new jerseys as part of the rebrand that started with the logo change.

The team dropped this hype tape on Twitter to give fans a small preview of what it could look like:

The Chargers main home jersey will be powder blue, which they’re keeping from last year. The intrigue really comes from what the rest of it will look like. When the franchise rebranded, they announced their primary colors will be “powder blue” and “sunshine gold”.

The video does feature the 70’s Chargers prominently, so it wouldn’t surprise me if there were yellow gold-colored pants on the bottom.

The rebrand and uniform change also signals for the removal of navy blue from the home and away jerseys. Perhaps it will live on as a third uniform or alternate at some point. The navy was more of a San Diego identifier, and it makes sense to move on from it for the first real Los Angeles jersey.

This is purely speculation, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Chargers move back to a colored helmet. The Dan Fouts era was the only time there were blue helmets. A powder blue helmet with the yellow face mask that was used last year could fit nicely. While they haven’t used a colored helmet recently, they did release a mini helmet via Riddell that looks great.

Other than the main jerseys, the third jersey seems to be a question. The Falcons and Buccaneers both revealed their color rush/alternate jerseys, so the Chargers will likely do the same. Personally, I’d love if the Chargers kept the royal blue Color Rush jerseys as the alternate. The royal blue might work even better with a color closer to gold than yellow.

One of the things that were a commonality in a lot of the uniforms shown in the Twitter hype tape was the number on the helmet. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Chargers do an updated version of that with a new number font.

The Chargers could go in a lot of different directions with the new jersey, but a couple of things are clear. Powder blue will be the main color, with a little bit more of an emphasis on a golden-yellow hue throughout the jersey. Sunshine gold pants for the home jerseys could have a very Los Angeles feel to it. Navy blue will no longer be on any of the uniforms.

The alternate jersey is up in the air, but expect the Chargers to stick with an updated version of the Color Rush royal blue. Fans across the league are very positive on that look. As for some more interesting changes, it wouldn’t surprise me to see the LA Chargers go all in a powder blue helmet or bring back the numbers on the helmet.
