Tom Telesco’s third-best draft pick for the LA Chargers: Hunter Henry, second round, 2016

Tom Telesco and the LA Chargers really knocked it out of the park with their first two picks in the 2016 NFL Draft. After drafting one of the best left ends in the NFL, the Chargers went and selected tight tend Hunter Henry, who is now one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the league.

Henry did not receive the widespread love throughout the NFL that he deserved until this offseason, where he was slated to be a free agent before being franchise tagged. While injuries have slowed his production, Henry is absolutely still one of the most dangerous tight ends in the passing game.

Since Henry was drafted, he is one of only eight tight ends to have 17 combined receiving touchdowns. He only has 35 starts in that timeframe, the other tight ends on the least all have at least 51 games played.

You could definitely cite his health as a reason why this pick could be worse than where we have it, but the fact of the matter is that Telesco drafted the right tight end at the right time. He easily could have been content with Antonio Gates, who was coming off of a 548-yard season, but knew that time was running out and the team needed another tight end.

Telesco got a great tight end in the second round, who many teams probably wish they would have drafted in the first.
