Chargers: What the heck is going on behind the scenes?
By Travis Wakeman
The Los Angeles Chargers are preparing for their Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings, but they will do so without one of their star defensive players.
For the second week in a row, the Chargers will make a player inactive due to reasons that have nothing to do with an injury. This is often referred to as a “healthy scratch”, but in those cases, the player is usually struggling on the field or just not part of the team’s game plan.
That wasn’t the case last week when the team played the Jacksonville Jaguars without Denzel Perryman and Roderic Teamer. That was in addition to not using either Jerry Tillery or Trey Pipkins in a game that essentially meant nothing in the standings.
The Chargers are not going to make the playoffs this year, but Anthony Lynn is going with the 46 players he feels most deserve to be on the field each week. But the reason Perryman and Teamer were benched could not have been a good one as both players were sent home last Saturday. They will be back this week.
Now, this would not be that big of a story if not for the news that Desmond King will not play against the Vikings. As for the reason why King won’t be available, that is currently unclear.
So that begs the question asked in the headline, what the heck is going on?
Many fans and media personalities are going to say that Lynn has lost the locker room. Have frustrations just started to boil over for the coach or the players?
Has Lynn suddenly decided to put his foot down on certain things or have players suddenly started to throw their hands up and stop caring? Because one of those two statements is true. One of those things has happened… suddenly.
It’s the icing on the cake of a really bad season for the Chargers. They will play the Vikings on Sunday before closing out the season against the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. It is at that time when some serious questions could be asked.
