In a game where few outside of Southern California saw coming, the Los Angeles Chargers gave it to the visiting Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers dominated Green Bay from opening kickoff through the final whistle, winning easily 26-11 to improve to 4-5 on the year. Was this their best game of season? Did the Chargers prove doubters wrong on Sunday with this win?

On this week’s episode of Stacking the Box, FanSided’s Matt Verderame and Mark Carman, along with former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, debuted a new segment on the podcast called “Eat Your Words”. Verderame had some words to eat after what he said about the Chargers before last week’s game (7:30).

“Yeah, I’m gonna open a vein on this,” said Verderame last week. “They’re not even at home because it’s going to be 90 percent Packers fans. Second of all, them firing Ken Whisenhunt, say whatever you want about Ken Whisenhunt, this idea because Anthony Lynn is involved they’re going to run the ball, they can’t block anybody.”

“That team has no ability to move the ball on the ground. And [Philip] Rivers, as good as he is, is a statue, okay. This idea that they’re somehow gonna get going now, the [Chicago] Bears donated that game. If there’s one game I’d bet on more than any, it would be the Packers by a mile.”

Well, Melvin Gordon ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns and Aaron Rodgers only threw for 161 yards in the ball game that wasn’t as close as the 15-point difference would indicate. Verderame would take his bad take from last week in full stride, “if you’re going to be wrong, you want to be all the way wrong.”

Verderame would then give the Chargers a ton of credit, as their vaunted pass rush of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram got the best of Green Bay’s highly touted offensive tackles David Bahktiari and Bryan Bulaga. This was the Chargers’ best game of the season and conversely, the Packers’ worst. This win by Los Angeles showed us all why we thought so highly of them at the start of the year.

Here are a few other topics discussed on this week’s episode of Stacking the Box:

  • Did the Patriots get exposed on Sunday? (3:11)
  • Are the 49ers or Saints the best team in the NFC? (12:20)
  • Titans TE Delanie Walker joins the show (14:55)
  • Chargers-Raiders pick (27:30)

All this and more!

Next. Will this be Philip Rivers' last season with the Chargers?
