Los Angeles Chargers injury report and impact vs. Detroit Lions
By Tyler Gallagher
Chargers injuries continued
Jatavis Brown, Linebacker – Questionable (Ankle)
Denzel Perryman, Linebacker – Questionable (Ankle)
Perryman and Brown should be able to play in a limited fashion. This is good for depth and special teams, but Kyzir White would be utilized more heavily than the others even if the duo was healthy. White performed decently in week one and is better suited to stop the Lions pass-heavy offense.
Trevor Williams, Cornerback – Out, IR (Quad)
Michael Davis, Cornerback – Doubtful (Hamstring)
The combined loss of Williams and Davis is likely to be exploited by the Lions in this game. The Chargers seem likely to go next-man-up at corner and use Brandon Facyson opposite Casey Hayward. Management added Dontae Johnson to the roster, but he is unlikely to see a large amount of time immediately after being added to the team.
Without improvement from Facyson (which could happen with a week of experience), Matthew Stafford could be picking on the No. 2 corner all game.
Roderic Teamer, Safety – Questionable (Hamstring)
If Roderic Teamer is able to play, it would be a nice boost to the special teams unit. Detroit’s returner, Jamal Agnew, was named to the All-Pro team for his return abilities in 2017 but took a major step back in 2018. It would be great to have a gunner like Teamer to stop Agnew from returning to form against the Chargers.
Michael Badgley, Kicker – Questionable (Groin)
In a miraculous turn of events, something went right on special teams last week for the Chargers, as Ty Long was able to take over after Badgley’s injury and out-kick veteran Adam Vinatieri. While Long was fantastic and named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week, Badgley is clearly the better kicker overall. The Chargers are hoping to get him on the field this week.
Players previously placed on IR or NFI – Russell Okung, Derwin James
