Chargers bold predictions

Quarterbacks score more scrimmage touchdowns than passing touchdowns.

Philip Rivers will not play, and Drew Brees is also likely to sit this one out. Teddy Bridgewater and Tyrod Taylor will get the start, and will be followed by mobile quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Easton Stick respectively. Cardale Jones will also see some playing time this game, but no one is expecting a big contribution from him.

Stick showed off his wheels last week, and will likely do so again with a rushing touchdown or two. Hill is a jack of all trades, and while he has developed as a passer, he still is much more of a threat as a ball carrier and is even a threat to catch the ball. Taylor can also run very well. The result: The quarterbacks will combine for more rushing and receiving touchdowns than passing touchdowns.

Chargers offensive line only allows one sack.

This is a very, very bold prediction. It’s no secret their offensive line is the biggest weakness of a very complete roster. Although they looked good against the Cardinals, they still allowed three sacks to one of the league’s weakest defenses. The Saints have a much more formidable defense, even with some veterans missing. The Chargers will also be missing their top two players on the line: Russell Okung is still out after suffering a pulmonary embolism, and Mike Pouncey likely won’t play to keep him fresh and give Dan Feeney more reps at center. The offensive line will surprise everyone and show they can rise to the occasion and deliver good performances from time to time.
