Austin Ekeler against the Pittsburgh Steelers

Try and think of this less of an analysis of the play-calling (for now) and more about taking it for face value; these are the plays that were run, and here is what happened. The following plays consist of any where Ekeler ran or caught the ball, as well as any targets. Was Ekeler truly bad in this featured game? Find out below.

  • 1st and 10: Ekeler left guard for no gain. Schofield lets man beat him inside.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler right guard for no gain. Too many defenders.
  • 2nd and 6: Ekeler up the middle for one yard. Tevi blows a block.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler left tackle for one yard. Green and Feeney do a good job creating a hole, but Pouncey lets his man push him down the line and into Ekeler.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler left tackle for one yard. Schofield’s man pushes him around and forces Ekeler between him and Okung.
  • 2nd and 10: Ekeler reception for no gain. Two defenders read this, play had no chance. Ekeler makes first man miss though.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler right guard for -3 yards. Feeney pushed onto his butt, Ekeler also slips trying to chance direction.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler reception for six yards. Easy dump off.
  • 2nd and 4: Ekeler right guard for one yard. It looked like Watt was supposed to block someone in front of him but chose to assist Feeney more to the right, who was getting turned around. But that isn’t what Ekeler was expecting, and a potential first down up the middle turned into a short gain.
  • 2nd and 10: Incomplete pass to Ekeler. Batted at line of scrimmage.
  • 3rd and 10: Incomplete pass to Ekeler. Garbage pass, garbage blocking, way behind Ekeler.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler right guard for one yard (ends half).
  • 2nd and 5: Ekeler reception for three yards. Swing pass, met by two defenders.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler up the middle for one yard. Crowd of bodies.
  • 2nd and 9: Ekeler up the middle for five yards. Draw play, something different finally.

  • 1st and 10: Ekeler right tackle for five yards. Nothing great, but nothing bad. Solid run.
  • 2nd and 10: Ekeler reception for 10 yards. Rivers barely gets it off, Ekeler sneaks by two defenders.
  • 1st and 10: Ekeler left guard for two yards. Tevi blows his block.
