The Chargers could potentially feature half a dozen players on the annual NFL Top 100 list, but none have been revealed thus far.

The Chargers racked up a number of Pro-Bowl and All-Pro selections for their efforts in 2018, highlighted by the First-Team appearance on both for rookie safety Derwin James who was also the runner-up for Defensive Rookie of the Year. As of right now, the list has revealed 20 names, one of which is former Chargers free safety Eric Weddle at 100.

There are a number of Chargers players who could make this list for their outstanding play in 2018, as well as name-recognition and respect from NFL players. As of right now, it may look like:

  • Locks: Philip Rivers, Derwin James, Keenan Allen, Desmond King, Melvin Gordon
  • Likely, but not a lock: Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Casey Hayward
  • Maybe: Mike Williams, Russell Okung, Mike Pouncey, Adrian Phillips
  • Surprise selection: Michael Badgley

Bosa, Ingram, and Hayward may make the list for pure name-recognition alone. When making a list of the best players in the NFL, it’s hard not to think of those three at their respective positions. However, each did not turn in their best years in 2018, so they are not an absolute lock. King being a lock is a bit tricky, as he’s nearly elite at two positions but may not be the flashiest name, or even the first or second player thought of when listing Chargers defenders. However, it does appear he has respect around the NFL, with one player even coming to his defense on Twitter regarding Madden ratings.

The Chargers should end up featuring six players on this list of the NFL’s best, with either Rivers, Allen, or James taking the highest spot on the team. It will be interesting to see how certain low-profile but high-output Chargers like Phillips are viewed by their peers, as the team currently has more solid-to-elite starters than most of the NFL.
