Tom Telesco’s draft patterns over six years with the Chargers
By Tyler Schoon
Tom Telesco draft pattern: Trading up in the draft his first three seasons, staying patient in his last three seasons
Theory it supports: Chargers could move up in the second or third round
Theory it works against: Chargers could move back in the draft
Telesco opened his tenure as general manager blowing fourth round picks three times to move up in the draft, each time to move further up in one of the first two rounds. The Chargers will see a lot of great prospects go by them and into the second round, but will they be there with the No. 60 pick? Telesco has used his fourth round pick to move up in the second round twice, both for a linebacker, going from 45 to 38 and 57 to 50 in 2013 and 2014. The Chargers could be in business for a free safety in the second round, and a fourth round pick could be enough for them to jump up and grab a guy like Juan Thornhill.
However, patience has been the theme for Telesco as of late, not moving up or down in any of his past three drafts. Either way, Telesco has never moved back in the draft, so fans hoping he bows out of the first and collects more picks are possibly going to be disappointed again.
