The Los Angeles Chargers have finally released former 3rd round selection CB Craig Mager off of the IR today.
The Los Angeles Chargers gambled in taking CB Craig Mager in the 3rd round a few years ago. We were hoping that his athleticism would translate to the field. We were hoping that he would develop into a playmaker in the secondary as a corner or as a safety. We all knew it was a risk when we made the selection and a lot of us were shaking our heads wondering who the hell we picked up. Most of us had no idea who we had just picked up to add to the secondary.
After 3 seasons with the Chargers, we finally have given up hope on him and released him off of the roster.
Per NFL transaction report, the Chargers waived CB Craig Mager from IR with an injury settlement and released TE Thomas Duarte from the practice squad.

It was already a surprise to see him make it past the preseason this year. He wasn’t able to get through the whole season though and the Chargers have now opened up a roster spot. I wonder what they are going to fill this space with on the roster?
We could be making room for Corey Liuget for when he returns to the roster. He still is out until after the 49ers game, but will need a roster spot when he gets back. Could the team be making room for another pass rusher on the roster?
The team worked out a few pass rushers last week, but didn’t sign anyone just yet. We still are in desperate need for help up front, but we could just be waiting for a couple of our starters to return. Corey Liuget will be back next week and Joey Bosa should be coming back fairly soon as well.
I wish things could have worked out with Mager, but he just couldn’t produce.
