5. Has the special teams curse put upon the Chargers ended with Coons?

Travis Coons is now 7 of 8 in his two games kicking field goals with the special teams unit. Drew Kaser has been nothing but a great punter this season. It seems like the special teams unit is finally playing well. Gone are the days of Josh Lambo hitting one wide right in Cleveland, Younghoe Koo losing not one, but two games in a row with his leg, or Kaser having to back up kick for a hobbled Nick Novak. You guys remember when Nate Kaeding missed three field goals in one game and the Chargers lost to the New York Jets in the playoffs?

I’m being a little facetious, but it feels nice for the first time in forever to have some decent special teams play that you don’t have to constantly worry about messing up a great game for the offense and defense. We’ll see how it continues to develop, but as of now, it does seem that the special teams unit is starting to come along nicely.

OVERALL

The Chargers find themselves where everyone expected them to be when they were 0-4; at 7-6 and playing a game this week that feels like it amounts to a division title game. Prime time in Arrowhead on a Saturday sounds like fun. Winning this game would be a real massive step forward for the Chargers. And for all intents and purposes, they have the momentum. The Chargers are 4-1 in their last five while the Chiefs come stumbling in at 1-4 in that span.

It isn’t going to be easy though. The Chiefs are struggling, but they do have some really talented players like Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt that are potentially explosive if you don’t pay enough attention to them. Not to mention Travis Kelce. This is an entirely different Chargers team than the one we saw in Week 3 though. It’s going to be super interesting to see how it all shakes out (if by super interesting I mean stress-inducing).
