New Chargers Signing, Tony Moll, Ranks Among Worst in the League

I was trying to dig up a little more information on our newly signed lineman and ran across this little gem from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal.

ESPN Insider examined every run block a National Football League offensive lineman threw during the 2008 season, and Green Bay Packers guard/tackle Tony Moll appeared on the list you don’t want to make, among the worst overall.

In a metric designed to quantify the effectiveness of offensive linemen on run blocks, Moll was ranked fifth worst in the league, with at least 50 point-of-attack blocks thrown.

Nice to see that AJ was putting in work signing one of the worst at his position. I am sure that Philip Rivers is excited to have him join the squad. Actually, Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert should look forward to the mini holes that he is going to create for them in the running game. Oh I hope things have gotten a little better over time!

Here are some of awesome comments that people sent to me when I shared the news on twitter:

lol and I believe they said “Fortifying” the oline lmao – @Chargers_fan

Building that championship team bro! – @sdchargerzfan

at this rate, it looks like AJ is trying to get himself fired. – @SDRHYTHM

at least its not the worst! Only 5th! Chargers can’t even get the number 1! Ever! – @angrySK

that puts him 4 spots higher than Dombrow would be if the ranking were redone today…an upgrade. – @Rivers_Salvador
