Here are some of the rumored locations for Shawne Merriman and what the local papers around the league are saying about him possibly joining each team.  Waiver claims can be made today until 1pm pacific time. If he clears waivers, the Chargers will be on the hook for his salary and any team can sign him to the league minimum.

Baltimore Ravens – It’s unclear exactly how interested the Ravens are in former San Diego Chargers linebacker (and Maryland Terrapin) Shawne Merriman, who was placed on waivers this week. Coach John Harbaugh said on his radio show Tuesday night that he and general manager Ozzie Newsome had a long conversation about Merriman, and might be interested in bringing him in if he clears waivers today. – Baltimore Sun

Buffalo Bills – Shocker: hearing Bills strongly leaning toward claiming Merriman. Only way it doesn’t happen is if they change their minds last minute. If Bills put in the claim they get him bc of waiver order. Nothing official yet but 2 sources say they are doing it. See if they follow through – Jay Glazer

Dallas Cowboys – Nope. I don’t even have to think about it. He was suspended for steroid use in 2006 and now he can’t stay healthy. – Dallas Morning News

Denver Broncos – So what harm could it do for the Broncos to take a long, hard look at picking up linebacker Shawne Merriman, who is on the rebound after being dumped by San Diego? – Denver Post

Miami Dolphins Not too sure about that one. I am not aware whether Merriman is on Miami’s radar or not. I assume not. Fact is current GM Jeff Ireland was in the DeMarcus Ware camp when the debate in Dallas in 2005 was whether to go with Ware or Merriman. – Miami Herald

New England Patriots – New England may be the spot for Merriman if he clears waivers. The Patriots could use a bit of brushing up on their pass rush, as they rank 31st in the league in pass defense. – NESN

New York Jets – The Jets won’t make one of their surprising splashes this week. The team has decided not to put a waiver claim on either WR Randy Moss or LB Shawne Merriman, a league source told The Post. –NY Post

Oakland Raiders – Three hours until we find out who claims waived former Pro Bowlers Randy Moss and Shawn Merriman. I can’t see the Raiders picking up either, but Merriman wouldn’t shock me. Oakland has a nice thing going right now, and coach Tom Cable seemed to add a “No Knucklehead” policy this offseason in terms of the players the Raiders brought in. – San Francisco Chronicle

San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers also are not believed to be interested in another high-profile player on the waiver wire, linebacker Shawne Merriman, who was released by the Chargers Tuesday. The 49ers already have four outside linebackers on the roster and claimed a fifth, rookie Thaddeus Gibson, on Monday. – Sacramento Bee
