Now that the Los Angeles Chargers' 53-man roster has been revealed ahead of the 2026 NFL season, fans have a good idea of what this team is capable of. The playoffs feel like a foregone conclusion, but can Mike McDaniel's influence push them past the loss of Jesse Minter and into true contention?
That is the million-dollar question, and one that Los Angeles will have to answer on the field this fall and winter. But what if the Bolts were granted a chance to add a franchise legend in his prime to this current roster and make them an instant Super Bowl favorite?
In reality, you'd have to combine the dimensions of time and space to bring a former Chargers great back for this season, or some complex scientific thing like that. But we don't have that ability here at Bolt Beat, so we're just going to use our imagination and perform a fun exercise to shift the dial.

Antonio Gates
Even with an emerging Oronde Gadsen II and veteran David Njoku already at tight end, could anyone argue that adding Gates to this offense wouldn't tip the scales in a major way? There's no cap on the number of pass-catching weapons that Justin Herbert can have, and Gates is undoubtedly the most gifted player in that realm to wear a Chargers uniform. He's a Hall of Famer for a reason!
Junior Seau
The late Seau was born to be a Charger, and if this franchise were to hoist a Lombardi Trophy, even in a hypothetical world, he would deserve to be a part of it. So, plopping Seau into the middle of Chris O'Leary's defense is an option, albeit not the best one. Still, the multi-faceted and incredibly talented Seau would be a beast alongside Daiyan Henley and Khalil Mack and behind a strong interior front.
Game-changing help at a position of need
LaDainian Tomlinson
Again, who could argue with bringing in Tomlinson? I know that Omarion Hampton is the future, and he is more than capable of shouldering the load as a lead back, but just imagine arguably the most electric running back in history running in McDaniel's offense. It'd be like 2006 all over again, but with this current roster, Los Angeles could make some serious postseason noise into February.
Lance Alworth
While prime Keenan Allen might be a good choice here, he's still active, so we'll turn to Alworth, the other greatest wide receiver in franchise history. Alworth, in a 14-game season, was a walking 1,200 yards, and alongside a trio of Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Tre Harris, that would be an incredible element to add, and his knack for the end zone would seal the deal for Los Angeles.

Call this boring if you want, but football is won in the trenches. Chargers fans know that better than anyone after last year and this preseason. So, adding a former Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro guard who held down his position in San Diego for nearly a decade and a half is probably the best choice to fortify the line and let the rest of this team's strengths shine through without a glaring weak chain.
