Weekly 2014 NFL Mock Draft

Hi guys, take a look at my weekly mock draft !

I put some trades into it.

1. Houston Texans: Khalil Mack, DE/OLB, Buffalo

The Texans will wait in the second round to take their Qb because no one worth the first overall pick. They will have to choose between Mack and Clowney. Ultimately Clowney is too risky to be the first overall. His work ethic and behaviour is a big red flag. On the other hand Mack has absolutely no red flags. They will go with him and let someone else gamble on Clowney.

2. ***TRADE UP***Tampa Bay Buccaneers: JD. Clowney, DE, South Carolina

The Rams will find a trade partner in the Buccaneers. They need a pass rusher badly. Lovie Smith is in town and he wants to build a top defence. For doing so he needs a player like Clowney. Clowney could play the same type of role that Peppers played in Chicago.

3.  Jacksonville Jaguars: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville

Jacksonville finally find a quarterback !! I don’t buy all the smokescreen surrounding Bridgewater. He is an exceptional leader and his decisions making are NFL read. He is a ”face of the franchise” type of quarterback.

4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M

Cleveland has almost everything right now except a good quarterback. Bring Johnny football in town to throw the ball to J.Gordon. He will get all the fans exited !

5. ***TRADE UP*** Detroit Lions: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson

The Raiders will be shopping their 5th pick and the lions will make a trade to pull the trigger on Watkins. They like him and they need someone other than Tate on the other side of C.Johnson. Watkins is the missing piece.

6. Atlanta Falcons: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M

Atlanta have a though decision to make here. The top LT or Evans. I think they will take Evans because they need to add some playmakers in their offence. Yes they have J.Jones but having Evans on the other side will be a nightmare for years for opposite defence. They can’t pass on that.

7. ***TRADE DOWN*** St. Louis Rams:  Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn

At this point it seems like a no brainer for the Rams to select the top LT of the draft. This is Greg Robinson. They need to protect their injury prone QB.

8.  Minnesota Vikings: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida

I know a lot of Vikings fan don’t want a Qb in the first round but I think this is a smart move. The last thing the Vikings need is a second day quarterback who can’t beat Ponder for the starting job. They need someone who can revive this franchise and throw some balls to C.Patterson and company. Bortles is their guy.

9.  Buffalo Bills: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M

Buffalo will go with the best player on their board. That is Jake Matthews. The bills will now have a young Qb and a wall to protect his blindside.

10.  ***TRADE UP*** Miami Dolphins: Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan

The Raiders needs to rebuilt their roster. They will look to add some picks by trading down for the second time ! The Dolphins will trade up to secure Lewan. With Lewan the Dolphins have their LT and RT fixed for next year. When Albert will be gone Lewan will switch to LT.

11. Tennesse Titans: Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State

The Titans have to replace Verner. Who’s better than the best corner in the draft?

12. ***TRADE UP*** San Diego Chargers: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State

With the top 3 LT gone the Giants will try to trade down and add some picks to rebuilt their roster. The Chargers need a returner and a top Corner badly. At 12th they get good value for Gilbert.

13. St. Louis Rams: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

The Rams will boots their secondary with the best safety of the draft.

14. Chicago Bears:  Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh

Aaron Donald don’t have the perfect size but the Bears will look at his combine numbers and his production on the field. They will be more than happy to add Donald to their line and replace Melton.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

16. Dallas Cowboys: Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA

17. ***TRADE UP*** San Francisco 49ers: Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State

18. New York Jets: Odell Beckham Jr, WR, LSU

19. ***TRADE DOWN***Oakland Raiders: Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State

20. Arizona Cardinals: Zach Martin, OT/G, Notre Dame

21.  Green Bay Packers: Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina

22.  Philadelphia Eagles: Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville

23. Kansas City Chiefs: CJ. Mosley, ILB, Alabama

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Kony Ealy, DE/OLB, Missouri

25. ***TRADE DOWN*** New York Giants: Ra’Shede Hageman, DE/DT, Minnesota

26. Cleveland Browns: Xavier Su’a-Filo, G, UCLA

27. New Orleans Saints: Dee Ford, DE/OLB, Auburn

28. Carolina Panthers: Marquise Lee, WR, USC

29. New England Patriots: Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame

30. ***TRADE DOWN*** Baltimore Ravens: Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois

31. Denver Broncos: Ryan Shazier, OLB, Ohio State

32. Seattle Seahawks: Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State

Let me know what you think !

So how many draft picks would we have to give up to go from 25 to 12? That is a pretty big jump.

    • Julien Bélair

I have a post about this tomorrow ! but our second round and maybe a third or fourth in 2015

      • shane

        that’s rough man

      • BlueBoltFan

I wouldn’t do it with Verrett still available. I actually think he’s a better cover man than Gilbert…or anyone else in this draft.

Trading up for anyone other than Clowney or Mack (or maybe Watkins) would be disappointing. And what we’d have to give up for them wouldn’t be worth it either!

        • BoltNative

Man, I’ve been saying this for weeks. I’d rather take Verrett actually.

  • Diegoblue

That’s too much of a jump brother.. We have to give up too much. The draft is too deep all around

    • Julien Bélair

I have a post tomorrow to talk/explain this

  • ioane

I hate us moving up for Gilbert. I just don’t see him being anything special in the NFL. I highly doubt Texans draft Mack over Clowney or a QB.

    • Julien Bélair

why is that? Clowney is good..but overrated. the most overrated player that I can remember.

  • ioane

Chargers should either stay put and take the best player available or trade down for more picks. No trading up.

  • shane

hate this draft, no offense belair

    • Julien Bélair

none taken. I knew that trading was not going to be popular

  • Cgoodness13

I think Gilbert is overrated, not worth trading up for

    • BoltNative

Agreed. Watch his film. The guy is playing off all of the time. We have enough of that today quite frankly. Verrett, Fuller, maybe Robe.

  • gpack17

Not a fan of this at all..if anything they trade back for more picks…they need much more than a corner…especailly after they already have williams back and ghee in

    • Julien Bélair

ghee is unproven and injury prone. williams is unproven and will cover the slot wr

    Wow cra

  • jcrisp

Um this mock is well not happening n if the chargers stayed put at 25 they cud have gotten nix n tht doesnt including trading up….idk bout this mock I just dnt like it . Its 2 unrealistic n if this really happened I would be quite disappointed in the front office tbh

    • Julien Bélair

I doubt we will draft nix even if we stay at 25 and he is available. Verrett and even van not is probably ahead of him for the chargers

      • BoltNative

That’s the million dollar question. If both Nix or Verrett are available at 25, who do you pick? Given our nuclear need at NT and desparate need at CB, we don’t have depth at NT now. It’s one or the other in the first 2 picks. Verrett and the best NT in the 2nd. Or Nix reunited with Teo and the new Jamal Williams for years to come and the best CB in the second e.g., Keith McGill or Rashaad Reynolds etc.

        • Julien Bélair

haha yep the one million dollar question… I hope both will be available ! It would be so exciting

  • Mark Viguri

I like the enthusiasm of throwing trades in. They certainly mess up predictions. However with this years draft being loaded with good players I don’t see too many trades except for the #1 and #2 picks:
    1. Rams will move up to #1 and select Clowney. You know Jeff Fisher is foaming at the mouth for Clowney.
    2. Houston moves down to #2 and also collects Rams #13 pick in 1st round. Jerry Jones will move up to #2 and take Manziel throwing in this and next years 1st round picks, this years 2nd and Tony Romo in trade.
Don’t see Lions ever taking another WR with a 1st round pick. The crazy days of former GM Matt Millen have been over for some time.
I also don’t see Vikings wasting their 1sr round on another unknown QB from the state of Florida again. Don’t know why media draftnicks keep pushing that fairytale. Like the Viking didn’t learn their lesson with Ponder. No way they are doubling down for Bortels.
After the terrible offseason Teddy Bridgewater will fall to the 2nd or possibly an early 3rd round pick.
Chargers will sand put and if Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame is there, Chargers will take him over a CB.
The Raiders like always will draft the fastest man on the board.
Only 2 QBs will be selected in the 1st. Manziel at #2 and Bortels late probably by the Browns at #26.
A Corner will be taken in the top 10, at least 2 in the top 20. For some reason media draftnicks don’t understand the importance of having good corners in a pass happy league.

    • docmike

Rams trade #1 & #13 for a guy they don’t need ??? Give me some of what ur smoking !!!!!

  • gregk

I just ran a mock draft on fanspeak.com using the Walter big board and I think I got the perfect draft for the Chargers in terms of filling up the positions of need. What do you guys think?

1st – Louis Nix lll, NT, Notre Dame
2nd – Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
    3rd – Marcus Smith, DE/OLB, Louisville
4th – Rashaad Reynolds, CB, Oregon State
    5th – Trai Turner, G, LSU
6th – Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
7th – John Brown, WR, Pittsburg State

    • Julien Bélair

dude we need a starting corner!

      • gregk

Rashaad Reynolds is very underrated. Just watch him play and you’ll see how he fits in Pagano’s defense. I think he would be a good fit as the number 2 cornerback on this team.

One reason he’s probably underrated is because he’s small. But then again, if we’re comfortable with drafting Jason Verrett, then I don’t see why we wouldn’t be comfortable drafting this kid.

And in this mock draft, we are also going to take Aaron Colvin. Probably would be drafted in the first 3 rounds had he not torn his ACL. I can see him making a strong return and becoming a good CB in the future.

        • Julien Bélair

          he’s a late pick 5-6 rounder??

          • gregk

          • gregk

he’s probably not going to play this year. tore his ACL in january.

      • gregk

Louis Nix—–> frees up the people around him ——> more pass rush ——> an easier life for SD’s cornerbacks hahah

    • philiprules

I guess I just don’t see the need at WR and DL that others see….so it appears to be wasted picks in round 2 & 3 in my opinion

      • gregk

I just don’t see Vincent Brown as a #2 receiver. I think he’s best as a #3 receiver. Dontrelle Inman is an interesting prospect but he’s unproven. And as for Royal, he can be injured at any given moment.

And as for DL, it’s probably the most important position on a 3-4 defense and Sean Lissemore isn’t going to be that guy that’s going to free up everyone around him. Sure, he’s a serviceable nose tackle, but I don’t think he’s going to be the solution at nose tackle.

  • RussinSactown

Did Jerry Jones take over? Why would Telesco need to make a splash like this? Stay put of fall back a few spaces to pick up a 3rd round pick. Jumping up that far on the board is no good

    • Julien Bélair

we need a top cb ! I’ll have a post today about the chargers moving up

      • RussinSactown

Corner is a top need. Is it our only need? I don’t think so. Are there so few real corners in the draft (Like left tackles last year) that teams must snatch them all up at the first chance they get? Again, I don’t think so, at least not to the point where we need to jump the board to
        12. Mortgaging the whole farm on a bull “with potential” is something AJ would have done and we all know how well that worked out.

  • powderBLUE801

I don’t like this at all sorry man but we can get a great CB at 25 and we can’t lose any more picks. This draft is just to thick to give up picks.

  • Calman21

Draft is too deep this year to move up. Hell we can get solid corners in the 2nd and 3rd this year. No way we are moving up for one.

  • philiprules

I find it kinda odd that so many below are on the “no way we trade up, this draft is too deep” but we constantly see in other posts here at Fansided “the Chargers should trade down to get more picks” sentiments. If this draft is too deep for the Chargers to trade up, why is it ok for other teams to do so?

  • SDmarm17

    My mock on Fanspeak.
    1. CB- Kyle Fuller Virginia Tech
    2. WR- Allen Robinson Penn State
    3. OT- Antonio Richardson Tennessee
    4. WR- Bruce Ellington South Carolina
    5. CB- Aaron Colvin Oklahoma
    6. OLB- Devon Kennard USC
    7. DT- Zack Kerr Delaware

Probably shouldn’t have drafted Ellington in the fourth since we have other needs and had already drafted Robinson in the second round, but he was definitely BPA and could take Royals spot next season and/or step in this season since Royal tends to get hurt a lot. He could be good insurance in the likely event that Royal goes down. Ellington, Allen and Robinson would be scary together for many years. Even after Rivers is gone, the receiving core would be in their prime. (Green, Allen, Robinson and Ellington, possibly Brown).

I like who we got, but the real question is how much did we lose?

  • docmike

Amusing draft thoughts – appreciate something other than the same ole thing posted ad nausea . That said, when making trades – throw in what other picks u think will be involved.
Also NFW Mack goes #1. Couldn’t help myself.

    • Julien Bélair

why do you think Mack wouldn’t go first overall?

  • jamfed

I don’t think there will be too much trading in this years 1st round. There are several teams looking to trade down, with the glut of talent in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Teams are going to want to keep their 2nd and 3rd rounders this year…
