The Chargers select in round 1…

This is my favorite time of the year, draft season baby. While the combine starts this Saturday at 6 am pt, the Chargers are in a tough spot at pick 25. Now there are multiple prospects us Charger fans wouldn’t mind being selected in the 1st round, but pre-combine edition I have the Chargers selecting WR Odell Beckham Jr. I know people are going to bash on me with this pick, but hear me out then bash away. LOL.

I have the Chargers selecting Beckham Jr. because I think CBs Justin Gilbert and Darqueze Dennard will both be gone before we pick because there are a lot of teams in need of a corner. I also think DT Louis Nix won’t make it past the Packers so count him out too. Then there is a couple of OLBs in Kyle Van Noy and Dee Ford worth considering, but I think 25 is too high for both unless one or both step up big at the combine then they’ll be the pick. I would mock a OT, but when King Dunlap was on the field he was great and Mike Harris is a decent backup. Also our O-line coach is awesome at coaching players; see what happens when our O-line gives Rivers some time to throw.

Now for the reason of the pick. I think the Chargers won’t resign Danario Alexander because he just had another surgery for his ACL and we don’t know when he’ll be back. It’s sad because he has so much potential and is fairly young, but if you can’t stay healthy then you can’t play. Another reason is because Eddie Royal is due $6 million and he’s a cap causality who will probably be cut and he fell off the earth when Keenan Allen emerged has the #1 WR. Also Malcolm Floyd I think will retire with his neck issue which is sad because he’s an awesome player who got a freak injury that’s potentially career ending. He can still play, but he’s got to think about life after football because one big hit to the neck area and he may never walk again and I don’t care who you are no sport is worth becoming paralyzed forever. The Chargers will then move Vincent Brown to the slot and give him one more shot and now the Chargers need a WR opposite of Allen who compliments him well. Our GM Tom Telesco said the Chargers lack a deep threat who can be that home run guy every time he touches the ball. Enter Odell Beckham Jr. out of LSU who is exactly that. You guys might be hesitant at first, but watch him at the combine because he’s going to kill it.

Now like I said earlier, this can all change after the combine, FA, and pro days. Here’s a video too his highlights from college.

I won’t bash you a like a wr in the first this year for us. Greaaat pick sir

  • TheTrueBlu

Odell or Marqise Lee. They both can be great picks

  • TheReturnOfMrBlanks

Having two bad ass receivers would be cool and all but I’d rather go Koney Ealy or somewhere on the defense then get a WR with the 1st pick. I’m open to almost everything but WR lol at #25.

    • bolt up!

I rather not waste a 1rd pick on ealy when we can get aaron colvin later rounds he had an injury but he can ball

      • Gunnar Martin

Yes! Please! And thank you. Colvin is a beast. I don’t care where we take him in the draft, as long as we get him. Maybe the best case scenario would be to take both Ealy AND Colvin. Definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

        • Nick in PB

I love seeing Ealy on everyone’s radar. The only problem is he’s more of a 4-3 end. We have many needs and Tolesco will likely pick best player available at 25. It could be a WR. We really need draft picks on the defensive side of the ball but last year, we were really thin an many positions on both sides of the ball.

  • davacho

can we get him in a later round?

  • navw21

If all the people you said are gone, then I would still go with defense. Kony Ealy, S Calvin Pryor from Louisville. But that highlight reel did feel like a lot of Keenan Allen type plays. Two of him would be hard to stop.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

Yoooooo! I was thinking the same thing. I like Addae. I really do. But Pryor is on another level. Besides the Kam Chancellor comparisons he is a physical player, something we don’t have on defense. They could draft him (maybe Ealy if he’s still available) and pick up Stanley Jean-Baptise or Kyle Van Noy in the second. Try to get the variety pack defense.

  • Cgoodness13

    Lsu DBs are always good

    • gpack17

where did you ever come up with that he is a db? and keep in mind brandon taylor…hasnt really panned out yet…

  • Julien Bélair

I have been saying that we should draft a wr in the first round for a month now ! so yeah I agree and great choice !

  • Vic B

He’s an excellent play maker for sure best hands in the draft IMO. But if we go defense in the 1st I doubt he’s their in the 2nd he’s in many teams radar. But his teammate Jarvis Landry is also a great receiver IMO they were the best receiving duo in 2014 he should be their in the 3rd would be steal.

    • Gunnar Martin

No way he drops to the third. He’d have to fail some drug test or get some sort of injury (cough Allen cough) for him to fall that far. Pretty good chance he gets taken by the end of the first.

    • boltingindiego

unless landry does something that hurts his draft stock he will most likely be picked in the 2nd.

  • Eli Rodriguez

I say taking a WR in the first only if its the BPA. Theres only one receiver I like in the 1st Marquise Lee. IF not lee then try and get Jordan Matthews in the 2nd if hes there. But heres a crazy idea what if they drafted a TE and switch green to WR. He would be a huge mismatch. Why not try and give that a shot. KA could be the number 1 receiver while Green could be the deep threat.

    • Daryl Peek

Have Green drop about 10 pounds it might result in more speed. I could see him getting on Megatron level on the outside with all those tools! SCARY

John Phillips is still a good option at second TE also.

      • Eli Rodriguez

I wouldn’t want Phillips to be our main TE though. I say we draft a young TE. WE still have Gates so we dont have to worry about that now. We could technically have our next WR2 on our roster already if it works out.

        • CALiFORNiAkiD

Don’t like that idea at all.
Gates has been working with Green since day 1.

WR is maybe the deepest Position in the draft.

          • Gunnar Martin

Word! If we wanted Green at receiver, he’d already be there. Bad idea to convert positions just after two years of converting to the NFL from college. I think Green can be a very, very dependable TE in this league. Let’s leave him out of the receiver conversation.

          • Eli Rodriguez

I did say it was a crazy idea. But you never know it could work or it could fail miserably. I say it’s worth a shot if for some reason we’re having a problem at WR next season.

    • Ernie Padaon

i agree with Lee. only receiver i would consider with out pick. Unless for some retarded reason Watkins is there

      • Eli Rodriguez

If Watkins is there TT will be doing backs to the podium. I wonder if it would be possible for him to fall thay far down. Noe I hope he doesn’t kill the combine like he says he will. I’m in favor of trading up for him even with all our needs on defense.

        • Ernie Padaon

hahahahaha… i don’t think there is a possible way that we get Watkins… but i do like to dream. hahah

  • Daryl Peek

Awesome highlight reel. Looks like a KA13 clone to me. Love the hands elusiveness and physicality. I don’t see the freakish speed tho? Not saying he’s slow, just didn’t see a ton of separation from DB’s.

  • gpack17

i really dont see anything special in that video..he looks like he is just making the plays he is supposed to be making..nothing really stands out…a guy that i would have no problem taking in round 1 would be allen robinson or in the later rounds would be brandon coleman

  • Alter Ego

We need a monster in the middle of our D line – and DB / SS help. The need is too great to ignore.
I would rather pick up a WR off the FA market. Decker would be sweet.

  • C.Steele

Thomas! WTH is the weather like on your planet? There is no way TT takes a receiver in the first! With all the wholes we need filled in the OL, DL, offesnive and defenseive backfields does he take a position that is said to be one the deepest in recent years in the first round!! I think he goes WR that’s a “down field threat” in the 4th.
