What are your biggest fears going into the 2014 season? As a Chargers fan, what are your biggest fears?

Here are a few of the things that freak me out if I sit and think about it for too long:

The biggest fear going into 2014 is the schedule that we have to face. We have to face the NFC West this coming season and none of those teams are going to be a cake walk. If/when we make it into the playoffs, we will be well tested during the regular season. We saw how bad the Seattle Seahawks beat up on the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl. We will have to face them in the regular season. We will have to face the San Francisco 49ers and a much-improved Arizona Cardinals team. The St. Louis Rams are not even that bad either. Not going to be a cake walk.

In our own division, we have to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs twice and the Denver Broncos twice. Those are going to be some tough games to win. At least we get the Oakland Raiders twice. We better not sleep on them this time around.

After the schedule, I wonder if the conservative coaching of Mike McCoy will burn us at some point. There were a number of games that we should have won last season, that we didn’t show up for and didn’t play aggressive enough to win. We lost to the Oakland Raiders. We lost to the Washington Redskins. The Houston Texans. How many games will we give up? McCoy needs to get his team to show up and needs to get aggressive on the field with some of his decisions.

I fear the playcalling on the defensive side of the football. John Pagano has coached the defense for two seasons in a row and they have never been able to put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks and they tend to start out the season slowly. Will he be able to generate pressure on quarterbacks and can he get his secondary to play better? This defense needs to hit harder, tackle better and play aggressive.

I fear that we do not add any playmakers on the defensive side of the football and we have some flops in the draft. Tom Telesco made some good moves in his first draft, but will he be able to add some talent on the defensive side of the football. He has not made a good decision on personnel for the defense yet. Derek Cox. Manti Te’o is still a question mark. He let Aubrayo Franklin walk. Dwight Freeney. We need playmakers on the defensive side of the ball.
