San Diego Chargers 53-man roster prediction 1.0

We have a month off till the San Diego Chargers get back to work. It is the boring time of the off-season. So let’s throw in the first predictions on the 53-man roster to spark some discussion.

Here we go:

Quarterbacks (3)
QB1 Philip Rivers
QB2 Charlie Whitehurst
QB3 Brad Sorensen

On the bubble/on the outs:
Mike Hermann gets the ax. Can’t keep 4 quarterbacks on the roster. I don’t remember the last time that we even have had 3 quarterbacks on the roster. If they can, they try to keep Hermann on the practice squad.

Runningbacks (6)
RB1 Ryan Mathews
RB2 Danny Woodhead
RB3 Ronnie Brown
RB4 Edwin Baker
FB1 LeRon McClain
FB2 Chris Gronkowski

Michael Hill or Edwin Baker? Baker or Hill? That is what it will probably come down to.

Tight Ends (3)

There is really no competition at this spot on the roster.

Wide Receivers (6)
WR1 Danario Alexander
WR2 Vincent Brown
WR3 Malcom Floyd

WR6 Eddie Royal

On the bubble/on the outs:
Richard Goodman is gone. Eddie Royal can handle all the return duties and is a bigger threat on offense. Plus Royal already has worked with Mike McCoy in Denver. Mike Willie also can’t crack the deep position. That is just too bad.

This will be a tough spot to figure out. Nick Becton will be competing for a spot and there are players like Colin Baxter, Brandyn Dombrowski and Steve Schilling that could get a spot. Johnnie Troutman and Mike Harris will have to perform.

There are a ton of undrafted guys that are fighting for a roster spot. This is where the Chargers need to add some sort of depth or we will be trusting in an undrafted free agent to take some big time playing time if/when someone goes down.
