I hate this time of the football season… things are slowing down and I am itching for football to start up all over again. At least there will be some fun soon with the rookies meeting up for mini camp.

What does King Dunlap offer Chargers?

But because the Chargers have been unable to address their most glaring hole, Dunlap, who was with the Eagles, is first in line to get the chance to protect Philip Rivers’ blindside. The other options are using Mike Harris or Kevin Haslam. Both players

Undrafted rookie Courtney Gardner leaves Chargers

Based on pure physical talent, receiver Courtney Gardner might have been the best undrafted rookie to agree to join the Chargers. But Gardner has left the Chargers before he ever officially joined them, and it remains to be seen whether he ever joins

Chargers left tackle situation NFL’s ‘worst’

The Chargers‘ situation at left tackle is concerning. The same holds for both guard spots. I’m not signing up to be King Dunlap’s agent. But as I wrote on April 1 after asking Mike McCoy who the left tackle was, Dunlap represents an upgrade over last

Yep, Ernie. It is official. They were talking about it on NFL Network yesterday. They predict Rivers will be worse “with King Dunlap on his left side”. They said they are afraid for Rivers with King Dunlap. I have no idea what people were thinking signing this guy. This is reality, people. Face it. It’s not going to make it better because our new GM did it. (mumbling under my breath, “this is something AJ would have done.”)

Good times, good times. Stocking up on heart meds… Ring Ring… is this Max, Max Starks?

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

worse though? that is crazy talk… they must not have seen Mike Harris last season. Harris was in a different league. Our left tackle position is still bad, but there is no way that it is worse than Mike Harris last season.

Both our tackle positions have been upgraded and the left guard spot is better with Tyronne Green just not being there. Right guard probably is worse than last year

PLUS… I bet that the new coaches in town don’t ask Philip to take 5 and 7 step drops like Norv kept on asking of Philip.

our line is actually better than the trash we trotted out last season. Not going to say it is good, but it is better.

They ripped Rivers up and added on reasons why Rivers will be worse with King D being a big one.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

interesting… we shall see. the reports on king d is not looking pretty though.

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Man, I am praying one of these new gurus can turn King D around.

I don’t know what show she was watching but all I saw on NFL Networks were “expert” football analysts Warren Sapp, Willie McGinest, and Shaun O’Hara answering who is a bigger threat to the Broncos the Chiefs or Chargers. It’s obvious they don’t watch the games they just pull statistics and read them off their cards. They were saying Alex Smith is the better QB because he took the 49ers to the NFC championship game in 2011, like that didn’t have to do with their ferocious defense, great running game and Vernon Davis. Alex Smith is nothing more than a game manager he’s not the type to carry a team to victory, he’s basically a more mobile Matt Cassel. And then later they asked if Philip would take them to the playoffs and Willie said no because he had 47 turnovers in 2 years and hes a 10 year vet and “leopards don’t change spots” then O’Hara pretty much said the same thing and read off stats given to him on hisnote card saying 47 turnovers and he makes bad decisions. They never mentioned how terrible the pass blocking was how he’s always running for his life or that he lost his pro bowl Lt and LG in the same year. It was pretty ridiculous that they expect the worst team in the league last year to challenge for a playoff spot, they mentioned how good their running game was with Charles. That running game didn’thelp them win more than 2 games or even lead a game until week 9

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

It’s on the video,. You saw it and they DID BRING UP KING DUNLAP. Don’t try to insinuate that I made this up. They did predict Rivers would be worse and one of the reasons that was stated was King Dunlap. Don’t try to twist anything that was said.

Did they not, in fact, specifically Shaun O’Hara, mention King Dunlap at LT, as one of the reasons Rivers would do worse?

          • JoseSD

Not on total access, maybe on NFL AM but I don’t watch that show. They’re whole reasoning was that he’s had turnover issues the past two years and since he’s a vet they don’t change and they expect it to continue. But anyone who actually watched the gamesknow it was the terrible protection that made his turnover numbers spike. I doubt they’ll actually go with Dunlap as the starter I think theyll let things play out a little more, wait until cuts are made and free agents are more willing to sign after being on the open market for too long. I’mkinda curious to see how the Doug Free.situation plays out in Dallas if he’s cut maybe they.could work out a 2 year.deal with him

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

It was on yesterday on Total Access. Yes, Shaun O’Hara said it. There is a video of it on NFL.com. It may still be there (There is a picture of Rivers and underneath the video is “Will He or Won’t He?”) I saw it on TV last night. But they had it on NFL.com also.

Joe D’Alessandris has three months to make this work. Let’s see whan he can teach them.

      • tubbs45

Most home games were blacked out so maybe the folk at the NFL network didnt get a chance to watch! Harris and Green were a really bad combo. compound that with the extra TE protection floating to the left side to help, exposed clary….

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

plus knowing that randy mcmichael was likely to stay in and block most of the time gave the defense less people to cover.. philip also had less options to toss the rock to

  • RussinSactown

So answer this for me: Is Joe D’Alessandris a great coach or a space filler? The man has 35 years experience coaching lines in college and the pros. His resume looks pretty impressive He has three months to get one of these three (four is you include the UDFA Becton) ready to play on the line. So are we saying these guys can’t be coached or that Joe D’Alessandris can’t teach his craft? Because to be deemed the worst without even putting on the pads doesn’t ring true. There’s time to make this work.

    • tubbs45

They need someone to bash on during the NFL down time. You know they just go in a rotation of bash and praise. When a team becomes successful (e.g. Joe Flacco) they all hop on the wagon of success. Anyone remember the talk before last season that it was ridiculous to talk about Flacco in the elite category. Or right after the lockout was lifted and Philly put together the DREAM Defense… Folks, they get paid to talk and they will talk shit until the Bolts turn it around…. Please Joe make it work…
Joe does look like a long lost Bush brother…. We need a shock and awe campaign….

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Jose: All you have to do is look at the dump up above and you will see that basically everyone interested in NFL football is commenting on the Chargers’ answer to LT for Rivers. This is not me just whining and trying to get the TT fan club in an uproar. The notion of solving our LT problem with King Dunlap is almost ludicrous. Not my words but others have this opinion.

    • JoseSD

The reality of the situation is that there is no one better on the open market the only decent starter is Eric Winston and he’s a RT. Max Starks seems like a good option but he wasn’t exactly great with the Steelers and doesn’t fit a zone blocking scheme. All the probable Day 1 starters in the draft were gone at pick #4 and the Saints poached Armstead right before they could pick. Joe D is considered one of the best o line coaches he turned Branden Albert from a college Guard to an above average LT. Maybe he could work his magic with Dunlap or Harris, I think Haslam who outplayed anyone else at LT should start over Dunlap as of right now. unless they trade for someone like Roger Saffold or Eugene Monroe their isn’t much they can do to get better at LT with current free agents, who knows maybe the undrafted rookie Becton .might surprise us all and take the job from all of them

      • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

But Dunlap was an RT also on Philly. He did play both positions at one time or another. But they have this guy listed as RT on various bios and stat listings.

        • JoseSD

He’s a swing tackle capable of playing either RT or LT whereas Winston is only a RT, plus Vick is a left handed QB so the RT protects his blind side instead of the LT. I think they’re better prepared this year than last when Gaither got a body cramp they had to scramble and prepare an undrafted college RT to start at LT, but now they have an entire offseason to prepare King or whoever else, how crazy would it be if Mike Harris actually got way better he started the season doing pretty well but got overwhelmed later on maybe the experience helped him

          • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

Yes. Maybe Harris will be more prepared.

          • RussinSactown

But if Dunlap can be that guy at 6′ 9″ on the left and Fluker 6′ 8″ on the left, that would be a nice wall to throw from behind.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lostkiara Stefanie Smith

I could haul off and smack AJ Smith in the face for the mess he made. Norv also. We now have to listen to how Alex Smith is better than Phillip Rivers. Those f* wads really did some damage.

    • RussinSactown

Let the talk continue. The more they focus on the Donkeys and the Chefs, the better we can work on fixing our problems.
