Chargers Remove "Take a Chill Pill" from website

After a late afternoon post by Bill Johnston telling Chargers fans to “Take a Chill pill” created a firestorm of negative publicity for the Chargers they have removed the post from their website.  Don’t worry my friends.  You can read it here as I left it up on my computer when I left in a hurry and in their haste to take it down, they did not reset the website:

Bill Johnston Director of Public Relations

What’s with you people?

Yes, Monday night’s loss was bad. Horrible. Embarrassing.

Ok…enough already. No mas. I get it.

Now get over it. It was a loss. One loss.

Listening to some of you out there, you’d think Monday night was “win or go home” and the Chargers are now packing their bags.

“The Chargers are finished. Done,” said one scribe.

Another wrote, “Bye, bye Chargers. Put a fork in them.”

Sometimes I think Twitter was invented to give people a chance to puff out their chests and talk big, saying things they never would say to someone’s face.

And talk radio … don’t get me started. The old adage your mom used to preach – “If you don’t have anything good say, don’t say anything” – seems to have evolved to “if you don’t have anything good to say, call sports talk radio.”

Some of those folks are probably the same ones who called for former Head Coach Bobby Ross’ job when his first Chargers team started the 1992 season 0-4.  I still remember the self-proclaimed experts saying Bobby was “in over his head”. The Chargers went on to win 11 of the next 12 games that year, along with a 17-0 victory in the first round of the playoffs.

A few of the more recent Chargers teams have been declared dead by quacks, only to awaken in good health.  The 3-3 Chargers of 2004 won nine of their final 10 games.  The ’06 Chargers won their final 10.  The ’07 Chargers started 1-3 before winning 10 of their last 12.  The ’08 Chargers won their final four in a row and the ’09 team won its last 11 games.

Time to take a chill pill.  No one knows what will happen this season, yet alone the next game. That’s the beauty of the National Football League.  I don’t know, you don’t know, no one knows what’s going to happen.

If you want these players and coaches to succeed, then support them.  Don’t tear them down.  What you want and what we all want, including your team, is to know people believe in them.

Look at it this way.  We want our loved ones to succeed, and we’ll do whatever it takes to help them.  But when they make mistakes, like we all do, we would never criticize or belittle them publicly.

Your team is 3-3, tied at the top of the division, and has 10 games to play.  If the Chargers are your team, get behind them and stay behind them.  We’re all at our best when we know others believe in us.

I don’t know about you, but even though they retracted, until I see a notice of apology and his release from the management team I will be upset.

I hate to think that, but I’m smelling conspiracy.

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

just to add to your conspiracy theory… what were those false start penalties on Philip Rivers?! what did he even move?

      • http://boltbeat.com/ ChargerGirl Cindi

He moved his hands. I have seen him do the same exact move dozens of times. It was BS!

  • JoeyBolt

He’s right. Any loss is a bad loss. Now lets see how our chargers come back. I’m behind our boys in Blue and Gold 100%

Hey Bill–I would be happy to tell Norv and AJ they should be fired…to their faces. If you want fans to support your team, players, coaches, etc…here’s a novel idea–don’t insult them.

looks like there in panic mode

Letting the biggest Rival in our division, Denver, come into our house and soundly beat us (all in the second half) on Primetime, with Manning…. That was a go big or go home… It’s too bad we were already home. Embarrassing. But I’ll tell you what will happen, we’ll soundly beat Cleveland and KC, but we’ll lose to every team with a winning record. Go 9-7 missing the playoffs by 1 game and the division title. Then tell me to take a “Chill Pill” about this game. It’s happened the last 3 years. It will happen again. This team doesn’t have heart.

  • Joey Nicks

They haven’t completely removed it. If you go to the second page on “Read More” or whatever the crap it is it is still there! WTF did we even do? The die hards kinda just sit here and take it and voice their opinion here. It bothers me A LOT!

Your post on it is great. :)

The problem is the Chargers organization is not behind the fans. They fired two of the favorite coaches in San Diego, Marty and Bobby Ross. The one coach the fans hate, they keep. We wanted the powder blues as the official team jerseys and they said no. Year after year, we watch our favorite players leave everything on the field only to be shown the door when they asked for a pay raised. And the players who the fans can’t stand because they miss practice due to dirt flying in their eyes, the Chargers give them another year.
The reason the stadium is not selling out even though they are in first is because we are mad for the treatment we have been getting. You want my money, then give me what I want. Fire Norv, change the uniforms to power blues, and reward the players who earn the rights to wear the bolts before they ask to be rewarded. Till then, kiss my ___.
