Like I said in the Offensive article, I have huge expectations for this years Defense, and it all starts up front. Running the 3-4 D requires some special talent on the front line. Bringing back Antonio Garay is huge, he gets the push up the middle that we need, and with Cam Thomas backing him up we will be solid there. BTW Cam has some awesome shirts hitting the market soon, get one or 5! Now we know that Corey Liuget will start as one bookend, who will be the other? Well my brotha from another motha says Vaughn Martin will win the spot and have a good year, he did well for us last year and will continue to grow. However I believe Luis Castillo will regain the starting roll and not having that big paycheck will give him the drive to hold the blocks he needs to. I also think both Martin and Castillo will get a push from rookie Kendall Reyes, I can’t wait to see the competition there.

Now for our Linebackers, we have a plethora of them Shaun Phillips should return to form from injury. Antwan Barnes did very well last year with little rest. But we really had no one to set the edge and stop the run, that’s where Jarret Johnson comes in, he has been a run stopper in Baltimore for 9 years. Now we also picked up Melvin Ingram in the first round and I expect him to be a situational player like Phillips was a few years back. As for Larry English, if he is healthy will be a huge asset for the rotation. As for the inside linebackers, Donald Butler had a huge year and I expect the same this season. Takeo Spikes is getting a little long in the tooth but, not to worry his replacement is in the mix, I hope Jonas Mouton has the same type of year Butler had last year. He does have a little time to learn though. I know, I know you’re asking what about Darryl Gamble and Andrew Gachkar? Well they should both be in the mix but, mostly on special teams.

On to our Secondary, I bet you were all scared when Barron was taken at 7. Not me, we still have our stud Eric Weddle but who will be next to him? I myself like Darrell Stuckey for the position but, we brought in Atari Bigby and drafted Brandon Taylor. This will also be a high competition roster spot come August. Now I know our Cornerbacks got burned last season, Quentin Jammer had an off year and I hope he returns to form this season. And my boy Randy’s least favorite CB Antoine Cason had a few hick-ups last year, I myself am holding out hope he gets his act together this season. We do have a couple of kids waiting behind him in Marcus Gilchrist and Shareece Wright. They are both serviceable although Gilchrist has more experience and did well when he replaced Jammer last season but, I am not quite sold on Wright yet

. We all have to remember one thing when it comes to our secondary, if we can’t get the push up front ( like last year ) they will look horrible!

Well Boltheads, those are my thoughts. What do you think?
