CBs that the Chargers should consider signing: 1. Stephon Gilmore
The fallout between Stephon Gilmore and the New England Patriots was flat-out perplexing. Although the two were unable to come to terms on a long-term deal, it was difficult to understand why. In four seasons with New England, Gilmore made three Pro Bowl squads and back-to-back All-Pro teams as well.
Ultimately, Gilmore was shown the door halfway through the season and shipped to the Carolina Panthers. With only eight games to play with, Gilmore proved that he was still one of the best corners in the league. In total, the lockdown defender nabbed two interceptions and registered 16 total tackles. He also allowed just 15 receptions on his way to yet another Pro Bowl selection, not bad for a player who was moved for just a six-round draft pick.
At the age of 31, Gilmore still had plenty left in the tank. More importantly, the Chargers are in quite possibly the most brutal division in the league in the AFC West. The offense shouldn’t be an issue going forward but if the Chargers want to make serious waves, they’ll need to improve their ability to lock down players on the perimeter, adding Gilmore could turn them into one of the better defenses in the entire NFL.
