NFL MVP tracker: 1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes had the best showing of any quarterback in Week 1 and it is impossible to put anybody ahead of him as it stands right now in the MVP tracker. He obviously has the pedigree to be ranked no. 1 and he plays on a team that is going to be battling for AFC West supremacy.

Starting off your season with over 300 passing yards and 5 touchdowns is no small feat as Mahomes might be going on a bit of a revenge tour this season. Mahomes has stopped receiving the hype he was getting before in favor of other quarterbacks and that may have lit a fire under the former MVP.

Not to mention that a lot of people penciled Mahomes in to have a worse season in 2022 without Tyreek Hill. That does not seem to be the case after Week 1 as the Chiefs' offense was firing on all cylinders.

That being said, the Arizona Cardinals do not have a very good defense and were playing right into the Chiefs' hands by blitzing Mahomes. The pressure was not getting there and it was simply creating mismatches and open receivers all over the place.

It will be interesting to see how he plays in Week 2 against a much-improved LA Chargers defense. The Chargers held an explosive Raiders offense to 19 points in Week 1 and are looking to do the same in Week 2 against the Chiefs.
