3. LA Chargers: Derwin James, Nasir Adderley, Alohi Gilman, Mark Webb
Charger fans might be upset that the LA Chargers rank this low compared to their AFC West peers but there are simply too many unknowns with the Chargers to rank them any higher.
They do have the talent to far-and-away have the best safety room in the entire division. If everything goes as planned, when we do these articles at the end of the season, the Chargers will be ranked no. 1.
Derwin James is an All-Pro safety when he can stay healthy but at this point in his career, we cannot assume that he will stay healthy. He has played a combined five games over the last two seasons and there is no guarantee that he not only plays a full season but can be the same guy.
Nasir Adderley is starting alongside him and while he has a lot of potential he has really struggled thus far in his career. I do like his chances to turn things around with Brandon Staley, but again, it is far from a guarantee.
I do not love the depth behind those two, either. I am not as high on Gilman as the team seems to be and Mark Webb was a seventh-round special teams pick. The top two can be really really good, or it can struggle and the room as a whole can sink.
