The LA Chargers are looking to finish in first place in the AFC West for the first time since 2009. While there is a lot of football left to play, the Kansas City Chiefs have fallen behind and the Chargers are more talented than the Las Vegas Raiders.
Everything is lined up for the Chargers to make a run and win the division.
This means that the outcome of the other AFC West games are much more meaningful than they were in previous years. It is easy not to care about the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 16 if the Chargers have a losing record anyway. Now, Charger fans have plenty to care about each week. Because of that, we predict each AFC West game, weekly.
LA Chargers 27, New England Patriots 24
Some fans might be expecting a blowout in Week 8 against the New England Patriots but I would be very cautious in taking that mindset. The Patriots are a better team than their record indicates and they are suited to exploit the Bolts' biggest weakness: the run defense.
Ultimately, though, the game should come down to Justin Herbert battling Mac Jones in the fourth quarter, similar to how the game finished between the Chargers and Browns. Just like against Baker Mayfield, Herbert has the advantage and thus so do the Chargers.
The Chargers narrowly squeak out a win against the Patriots, who cover the spread and make every Charger fan at SoFi Stadium sweat it out.
