One of the biggest needs on the offensive side of the football for the LA Chargers this season is the right tackle position. Bryan Bulaga has not panned out as expected and is undoubtedly going to be released to free up more cap space for the offseason. Storm Norton is not a viable starting option, either, as he allowed the second-most pressures in the NFL in 2021.

The Chargers need to find a new starter to anchor the right side and if they can find someone who is 75% of what Rashawn Slater was to the team in 2021 then they will be in great hands. Luckily for the Bolts, the team has money to spend and draft capital to utilize.

The Bolts can go in a myriad of directions at right tackle so we decided to look at five potential players who could end up being the guy who gets the nod for the Bolts in Week 1.

5 options to start at right tackle for the LA Chargers in 2022:

1. Trevor Penning

Trevor Penning appears to be the favorite if the LA Chargers select a right tackle in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Penning is projected to be a mid-to-late first-round pick in the draft this year and is a man amongst boys. He has experience playing on the right side and he is an absolute mauler.

Penning had a good showing at the Senior Bowl that could have potentially raised his draft stock. While he is a mean right tackle and there is no denying that, his level of competition in college was not the highest and that could have understandably raised some concerns about his leap to the NFL.

Tom Telesco loves prospects that show up and show out at the Senior Bowl and if the team addresses the other roster needs, and it is apparent that they are going right tackle in round one, then Penning may be the guy.
