With the 79th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Abraham Lucas, OT, Washington State

This is a place where I have had the LA Chargers take a tackle in previous mock drafts and I really do think it is a good spot to take someone. Abraham Lucas may not have the overall ceiling of a first-round pick, like Trevor Penning, but he has a low floor as a starting right tackle and should be able to provide the Bolts exactly what they are looking for out of a rookie right tackle.

With a great left side, if the Chargers sign an impact starter from the deep right guard market and draft someone like Lucas then the team would be in a great position.

Lucas may take his bumps as a rookie right tackle but he would certainly be better than Storm Norton was for the team last season. The Washington State right tackle is better in pass protection than he is in run blocking but the Chargers can work around that by helping Lucas with Tre' McKitty on the right side of the line.

The third round is probably the last point for the Chargers to draft a right tackle who could start for the team in 2022, regardless of who the team actually selects. It also could be more likely that the Chargers wait until the third if they have more confidence in Trey Pipkins than most fans do heading into 2022.
