With the 48th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Tariq Woolen, CB, UTSA
I would assume that the LA Chargers are still going to add at the cornerback position in free agency in some capacity. The team is not going to be able to sign a premier cornerback in the free-agent market after signing Mike Williams and that probably was never the way to go.
The team already has its star member of the secondary in Derwin James. LA needs to build depth around James and the established foundation. To do that, the Bolts must bring in 1-2 savvy cornerback signings that do not break the back and also draft a cover corner like Tariq Woolen.
Woolen may not be a huge contributor right away and his role in the rotation could be limited. He is a bit raw as a prospect and learning Brandon Staley's defensive schemes is going to be a hurdle for a rookie cornerback.
However, it is impossible to not fall in love with his physical traits. The six-foot-four, yes, six-foot-four, cornerback ran a 4.24 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. The ceiling of Woolen as an NFL player is as high as it can be with his size and athleticism.
Woolen will help the depth of the team while also contributing to the youth that could be a legitimate force for years to come.
