With the 17th pick in this LA Chargers mock draft, the Bolts select Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia
Jordan Davis may not be my personal favorite choice for the LA Chargers in the first round but it is hard to argue with the fans. Davis was the overwhelming favorite when we asked our followers on Twitter to rank the potential selections in the 2022 NFL Draft and Davis has all the makings of being a Charger.
There is no denying that defensive tackle is a need for the Chargers and that Davis is someone who would reset the line of scrimmage for the next decade. He is not someone who is going to be a great pass-rusher early on, but if the Chargers can build pressure off the edge he will be just fine.
Using a first-round pick for a defensive tackle that is going to be productive mostly on first and second down is not traditionally even in the conversation but that is just how good Davis is. The team would need to do more work but Davis would be a huge first step.
Even though I am not a huge Davis fan at 17 there were no other real options for me with the 17th overall pick. Jermaine Johnson, David Ojabo and Trent McDuffie were all off the board. It was really just between Davis and Trevor Penning. As good as Penning is, I think Davis would be more impactful for the team's ceiling.
A trade down a few spots to a quarterback-hungry team is also possible in this spot, as you would assume that either Davis or Penning would be on the board if the team traded with, say, the Steelers.
