The LA Chargers had their first offseason domino fall on Tuesday as the team inked Mike Williams to a new three-year, $60 million deal. There is certainly a split opinion about the deal, with those against it arguing that Williams is overpaid and the team should have spent elsewhere.
Regardless of how you spin it, the Chargers have an elite quarterback on his rookie deal and the team is capitalizing on having the money to spend. This entire time I have argued that the team shouldn't suddenly be cheap and not pay a receiver because he would be slightly overpaid. We cannot complain about Coupon Tom and then get upset about this contract.
This Williams deal is going to have a direct impact on the rest of the offseason. And while more decisions need to be made as it pertains to free agency, bringing him back does impact any mock drafts. A receiver in the first round should now be completely off the board.
